Diorama
This is the overview of our diorama. This diorama is made for junior and senior kindergarten students. As you can see, there are a lot of colourful decorations around the classroom. Children will get attracted by all the interesting murals, also by different amusing activities in the classroom. This is a place where children can develop their language, cognitive, social and emotional skills. There are many group and individual activities, where children can built up their confidence by interacting with other people.
Here is the left wall of the diorama. The first thing students should do once they get into the classroom is to place their belongs into the cubbies, coats, boots, backpacks, and lunch etc. There is a place where is carpeted for children to play and learn. They can play with the toys and Legos, or they can choose to read on the carpet. According to Jean Piaget's theory of preoperational stage, it is better for chilren to have hands-on activities or more complex skill like reading comprehension. Beside the carpet area, there are garbage bin and recycling bin. Children have to learn how to sort things which belongs to either garbage or recycled materials. There ia a little house keeping area where children can sweep the floor by using the broom and dustpan. They will have the responsibilities to sweep the floor if they are assgined to do so based on the work distribution chart on the wall. The time-out chair was placed in the corner of the room. Once the children misbehaved, the teacher will explain to the child about his misbehaviour and to request the child to sit on the time-out chira for one minute. On the top of the wall, you can see some of the student's artwork. They can built up confidence by seeing their work posting on the wall. According to B.F. Skinner, he believes that internal states could influence behavior just as external stimuli. There is a chart for children to recite alphabets, or they can use it as reference when they write their names.
This is the front view of our diorama. A big slogan that says "Play, learn and grow together!" reflects children's life in the kindergarten. There is an art area where children can paint. They can use their imagination to create their own artwork. The art supplies are located on aside, so that they can get the materials easily. Also, some unit blocks which contain toys and other supplies are under the smartboard. We have smartboard which teachers can show the children pictures and videos. We also have chalkboard which teachers can use it to teach lessons. There are two tables which children can complete individual or group projects on the tables.
Here is the right side of our diorama kindergarten classroom. We have a lot of mural designs, such as number chart and colour chart. Children can do copy letters or trace numbers on class. There is also a bulletin board where teachers can post important news to remain students. Book shelf is located near the front door. Students can read books on their free time, but they will have the responsibility to organize the books. On top of the book shelf, there is a picture showing a few children who sit nice and quietly reading books. According to Albert Bandura, children learn from observing models. Children can learn from these role models to learn positive reading skills.
A big welcome sign grabs children's attention when they enter the classroom. The door is decorated colourfully welcoming children. There are some windows that can look through outside, teachers use the windows to decide if the children going outside or not. There are some unit blocks for students to storage toys and other stuff. Beside the window, there is a work distribution chart which showing each individual's responsibility to do the house keeping. There is washroom under the chart. First-aid kit is on the wall too, just in cast any minor injury happens. Most importantly, the emergency exit door is next to the washroom. Students have to learn how to exit in the emergency situation.
